16 august 2025.SCO Presents: Beethoven 7
Our concert opens with Barber’s “Adagio for Strings”, a deeply resonant work that sets a contemplative tone before moving to the Australian premiere of Ananda Sukarlan’s new composition based on the Indonesian folk song "Kampuang Nan Jauh di Mato," a vivid and lyrical reimagining that honours its cultural roots while exploring contemporary orchestral colour.
Rena Tang, winner of our concerto competition, performs the Rococo Theme and Variations by Tchaikovsky with poised virtuosity and nuanced phrasing, showcasing the soloist’s expressive maturity.
The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a jubilant and rhythmically driven masterpiece that brings the program to a rousing and exhilarating close.
