SCO Presents: Dvorak Symphony No. 9

Our first concert in 2022 began with uncertainty, we didn't even know if anyone would come, yet the hall filled with eager listeners as we reached for Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, the "New World", its wide horizons and poignant themes mirroring our own leap into a new chapter.

The program also featured Mendelssohn, whose lyrical clarity balanced the evening, and a striking contemporary work by Ben Fan called “A Quiet Mountain” that showcased fresh Australian compositional voice alongside the established repertoire.

Together the three pieces announced our ambition: to honour the classics, champion living composers, and invite the city to share in the discovery of what the Sydney Concert Orchestra could become.

We’re forever thankful to the musicians who were a part of this program. You made history.
